RINGMER ENSEMBLES AND QUARTET CONTEST, FEBRUARY 2009 |
Our Band had a winning streak again at Ringmer Community College in the Southern Counties Amateur Brass Band's Associations Annual Solo, Quartet and Ensemble Contest. We entered two Youth Ensembles and one of these Won 1st Prize in the Youth Ensemble Section winning the New Ensemble Shield,Certificate and plaque and our other Youth quartet took 4th place with a creditable performance. Both Youth Ensembles were Conducted by Youth Band Conductor Peter Mansfield. Our new Musical Director Daniel Hunt then took Paul Homewood, Peter Mansfield, Ian Kingshott and Dave Imray on Gareth Wood's Four Pieces for Four Trombones and we won the Snell Memorial Challenge Bowl, Certificate and plaque, taking first Prize in the 2nd Section. Our other Quartet comprised of Georgie Robinson, Adam Bushell, Piers Carr and Faye Buttery took 2nd Prize Winning a Certificate and plaque. Our Band, under our new MD Daniel Hunt, are looking forward to competing in the SCABA Spring Contest at Hove Town Hall on Sunday 5th April.

Competing in the second section once more, the adult band achieved fourth place for the main test piece and third place for the set March "The Standard of St. George". The Junior Quartet conducted by Ray Woods won their section playing an arrangement of Pachebels Cannon, beating two other quartets. The Senior Trombone quartet conducted by Andy Wooler, in their first ever 2nd section competition, played well enough to secure a creditable 2nd place. Well done to all the quartets that entered. FIRST Place out of 9 in the Test Piece (Dimensions) and 3rd in the Hymn. Also winners of best soloist, Ray Lomas (euphonium), best Horn section (Peter Hughes, Maureen Hobden, Edwina Wooler and Yvonne Riggs) and best percussion section (Alex Mitchell with a little help from Ray Woods).
