RINGMER QUARTET & ENSEMBLE CONTEST 8 FEBRUARY 2004
JUNIOR QUARTET
Faye Buttery (1st cornet), Laura White (2nd Cornet), Emily Crosta (horn) and Tim Johnson (Euphonium) put on a great show in what was the first contest ever for some of them.
With only 4 weeks rehearsal, their conductor Ray Woods put them through their paces playing a March by Handel (Occasional Oratario) and Rock n Roll Heaven by Mark Pullman.
Although not a winning performance, the music was a crowd pleaser and the audience applauded loudly at the end.
The performance secured a 5th place in a very closely fought competition. To see that the adjudicator, Paul Norley, had to say click HERE.
YOUTH QUARTET
Rosalind Loyd-Bostock (1st cornet), Emilie Denyer (2nd Cornet), Adam Passingham (horn) and Kate Bull (Euphonium) put on a fabulous performance to secure a well deserved 1st prize under their conducter Peter Mansfield. To see that the adjudicator, Paul Norley, had to say click HERE.
They played a great little number from the Junior Just Brass series simply called Rhumba (from Three Latin American Dances by Bruce Fraser).
SENIOR QUARTET A (3RD SECTION)
David Imray (1st Tromb), Peter Mansfield (2nd Tromb), Philipa Caddy (3rd Tromb) and Paul Homewood (Bass Tromb) put a further shine on the day for Mid Sussex Brass Band when they secured 1st Prize under the conducting of Ray Lomas.
HERE is what the adjudicator said about their piece Just A Closer Walk with Thee
SENIOR QUARTET B (3RD SECTION)
SENIOR QUARTET B (3RD SECTION), Ray Woods (1st cornet), June Youngman (2nd cornet), Maureen Hobden (horn) and Piers Carr (Euphonium) put on a brave performance of a devilishly tricky piece by Rossini called Semiramide. Not even the stylish conducting of Ray Lomas stopped nerves showing through this otherwise good performance. Still, 6th out of 10 leaves room for improvement and the quartet can always look to the trombones and youth quartet for inspiration. To find out what the adjudicator thought, click HERE.
